I haven't had time to try Portal 2 in wine recently, but when it came out I had
downloaded it with Steam in Wine, and I didn't have enough space on my linux
partition, so I used mount --bind or bindfs to bind the Steam directory from my
windows partition into the one in Wine. I was experiencing the problems here
when running from Wine, but the same exact installation worked fine in Windows
7, although I do remember that Steam had to download a few files first, just
like it tries to do in Wine, but it actually succeeded.

I can try to run it again later today if that would be helpful.
