I had this problem and I tried everything I possibly could and finally somehow
managed to get over it. I had installed latest wine and latest Spotify. I'm
using Kubuntu 9.04 by the way.

So I got the problem that every time I try to open Spotify it tells me there is
a problem and it needs to close. Next I just ran it from command line, again it
gave me the problem popup, but this time the program didn't shut down after
that, but it stayed on. It was acting all silly, the graphics were all messed
up, but it was working, playing tracks and so on. I don't know it this makes
difference or not, but I turned off the facebook connection, then closed the
program.

Next time I started it from the menu and it was working all nice and happy,
zero problem. So there is some step at the beginning, presumably a popup window
where you accept the new EULA, which causes the problem, but if you can trick
Spotify to think you've agreed to it, then it won't ask it the next time and
the problem won't occur.
