The above attachment applies to this:
===============================================
Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 Laptop running 64bit Linux Mint Debian Edition
201109 (update pack 3).
The laptop has ATI Radeon M92 (HD 4500 / 5000) graphics.
LMDE is based on Debian testing and because at present there is no WINE in the
testing repositories, I have installed 1.3.30 from:
http://frickelplatz.de/debian/
This seems to work fine: I can run LTspiceIV perfectly.
However ...
I have tried to install a game from the BBC Doctor Who series:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/theadventuregames/download/tardis/Install-TARDIS.exe
According to the WINE AppDB this should run OK.
Installation seemed to run OK.
The first attempt to run it got me a full screen startup first all black then a
screen split into a black/white triangle along a diagonal line which finally
turned into a largely black screen with a scrambled cursor and no clear picture
of anything.
Once that point was reached I couldn't then close the window with the program
in it. The cursor only appeared in any window decorations and the main Linux
menu/taskbar bar. The machine ran very slow and I had to use the System Monitor
to kill the DoctorWho_pc.exe which then also killed wine.
The intro music played fine so I assumed the problem was to do with the
graphics.
I tried configuring wine to run a virtual desktop but that just framed the
whole thing in a virtual desktop and didn't change anything else.
Unfortunately I didn't capture any log file info from those attempts.
I then wondered if the problem might be with the linux native ATI Radeon
graphics drivers so I installed fglrx-driver.deb and associated .debs from
Synaptic.
This seems to have made things worse because now all that happens when I try to
run the program is that a window pops open and then closes immediately. If I
set it to run in a virtual desktop then I get the blue virtual desktop for a
second or two, a white flash in that then it all closes again.
I have posted to the forum
http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=14045&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=
and had a couple of suggestions:
Upgraded to 1.3.32 (from frickelplatz);
Removed:
fglrx-atieventsd
fglrx-driver
fglrx-glx
fglrx-glx-ia32
fglrx-module-dkms
glx-alternative-fglrx
then reinstalled the same;
Tried uninstalling the game from wine and reinstalling.
No joy. same problem.
As far as I know, the fglrx debs are effectively the same as the driver
downloaded directly from AMD.
I have attached the results of running:
WINEDEBUG=+synchronous wine wholauncher.exe
