Alexander, thanks for your patience keeping working on this problem for about
three years and coming up with your pretty nice patchset. I want to mention one
side note:

AFAIK, winecfg in recent Wine versions doesn't allow one to set sample rate.
You have to set it using registry editor in case it is really required. I agree
with you on all other points you had written about.
