[Bug 29003] T4C: Crashes during or after patching phase

The game doesn't crash under these circumstances:

1. An update *is available*, in this case the updater downloads the game data
and reloads the game.

2. I run with WINEDEBUG=+relay, in this case the game starts as expected.
