Shorter URLs are convenient because they're easy to type, and
make it easier to write little scripts that refer to bugs.

It would be easy to make a little redirect in apache to make this work.
The Chromium project does this;
  crbug.com/10000
redirects to
  http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=10000

I think it's a good idea.
