I'm getting much lower performance than expected on Jedi Academy on this
particular system. I'm using the official catalyst drivers on Ubuntu 11.04, and
native games run fine (Urban Terror at a constant 130 FPS). But on Jedi
Academy, there's a slight "jitter" in the graphics and the in-game FPS meter
jumps between 80 and 110 a lot. When there are more than 3 players on a server
the performance impact is much more noticeable. Even though the FPS shows a
good rate, the game doesn't feel smooth. Some maps feel much worse than others.
On my Windows 7 partition, I get a very smooth experience with a constant 300
FPS ingame. Not a single hitch.
An old laptop of mine runs the game with lower FPS, but with flawless gameplay.
With an integrated, entry level, Nvidia graphics card on the laptop I get a
consistent 100 FPS in Wine and everything performs exactly as it would in
Windows.
I am sure this issue is most likely related to the AMD graphics card. Still, it
would be great if this issue were addressed because a game that normally runs
flawlessly in Wine just runs sub-optimally.
