He did use english, mostly...

There can be lots of causes of this symptom.

Here's a similar report, in which the solution was to install Firebird in
client mode:

Is there a simple example executable that will show the problem?
Can one be created with the free Delphi trials
( https://downloads.embarcadero.com/free/delphi )?
