while comtrl32.dll fixed my problem, and i'm not sure if it matters, the new
debug codes include this line:

fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly
L"Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls" (6.0.0.0)

In my case, it does not appear to make any difference I can observe at this
time.
