Here is more data, I hope it is useful.

I managed to reproduce this crash with only *msvcr2008 set to 'builtin,native'
and two Direct3D overrides: 'StrictDrawOrdering=enabled', to avoid flickering,
and 'UseGLSL=disabled' to avoid earlier crashes.

The crash seems to happen just as the first in-game movie with binkw32 starts
playing.

I actually used to get further than this, but I figured this would be a good
place to start
