As an independent confirmation, I could not get the game to load until:
Applying Erich solution from:
http://source.winehq.org/patches/data/85573
into the latest wine-git source
this was built on amd64, on Ubuntu latest 11.10 and patched wine-git.
The full game setup from (today's) free Diablo III beta week-end trial
installed and ran without a problem, it has now been running for hours
and in network mode with a party doing quests.
The only issue so far: could not change the graphics mode, the game quit,
besides this the game looks platinum -- just needs this 1 fix.
