Well, today 28 august 2012.

With the new version of Guild Wars 2 launcher, looks to be working nice for me.

We still have the large black border but at least the transparent window inside
that black window is now visible.

My understanding of the issue is:
The launcher have two layers.

A transparent background layer. 
The other layer is the dynamic window that showing up your login and password
and download progress.

The bug is that the dynamic layer window become hidden behind the background
layer window.

Now, the transparent background layer still not showing up correctly but they
fixed the dynamic window so you can now interact with it correctly in wine.

I don't know how they made the layer but it is not compatible with wine.
