Btw, in the case from which I obtained the above backtrace, the crash occurs at
a memory consumption of ~783 MB. Hence, I suppose this being the cause is
rather unlikely.

I think we should focus on this section of the backtrace instead:

I already took a look into the code (i.e. process.c), but at the time writing
this I have absolutely no idea what's going on in there.
