Sorry, I should have clarified better.  I played a Linux game ("Battle for
Wesnoth"), and the sound seemed to work perfectly.  Also as I mentioned before,
Skype also works, and so does streaming Pandora.com in Firefox.  I haven't
noticed the slightest discrepancy using the sound with any native-Linux
program.  On the other hand, the sound doesn't work at all in Wine.  It sure is
strange!

I didn't realize that the threading model error is a red herring, thanks for
clarifying that.

Is there any other diagnostics I can run to help?  I'd be happy to Run
WineTest, for instance.
