I can reproduce this with the free demo from steam.  
The key line from the log is probably:

fixme:d3d9:IDirect3DDevice9ExImpl_PresentEx iface 0x1488c0, src_rect (nil),
dst_rect (nil), dst_window_override (nil), dirty_region (nil), flags 0x80000000
stub!

lets the game start and show its logo movie, but it aborts before putting
up its main interface.
