Are there some tricks for tracking down bugs like this in Source games?  I just
got a new computer and I transferred my Wine over and I'm having symptoms like
those described in the summary.  However, I'm running an updated Wine (1.3.36)
and there doesn't appear to be any useful information in the crash (no
backtrace, WTF!).
