[Bug 24006] Shadow Vault freezes at startup

It is still present, though less frequent. I can now get start a new game and
everything, though it is barely playable due to significant slowdown and a
missing mouse cursor.

I suspect that the source of the slowdown is related to the source of the
crash, as when I upgraded my system the game became both less unplayable and
less likely to crash in the same stroke.
