Same problem.  Worked okay while I had my game running today, then I rebooted. 
Updated to 1.5.8 in the mean time and all subsequent attempts have crashed
after hitting "Start Game".  Running Fedora 17 with Wine 1.5.8 32bit.

Crashed right after this on console:

fixme:heap:HeapSetInformation 0x21451000 0 0xaa3af9c 4
err:seh:raise_exception Exception frame is not in stack limits => unable to
dispatch exception.
