I have experienced that the game plays normally until lag/framerate issues
occur.  After that point, chat messages cease to work (definitely outgoing,
possibly incoming), and the aforementioned error message is inevitable, as is
the buggy post-error behavior of the game client.  I can also confirm that it
started happening June 4th.
