[Bug 29168] Star Wars: The Old Republic game client hangs at intro splash

I'm in the same boat as hash. I can login fine but, I get a plain desktop and a
cursor after logging in. After waiting ~10mins the screen goes black and
nothing further happens. Any ideas on what could be going wrong? When I log in
from Windows it goes straight to my character selection screen (not the server
selection screen). Could this be the problem?
I'm using NVidia 290.10 drivers in Arch 64bit to drive an NVidia 9600 GSO.
Any ideas?
