I thought this issue might be the same as I found for bug 20882, so I tested
both with and without an override for gdiplus, and found that in 1.4, the slow
rendering does only occur with native gdiplus. So I think this bug, too, is
invalid.

I also found that in 1.5.0 the slide backgrounds don't render properly in edit
mode; I'll file a bug for that later.
