How do you know the installation is to blame? Have you verified that an
installation made with 1.2 runs properly on Wine 1.5.3?

You could try a regression test. It may take a long time to bisect between
1.2 and 1.5.3, so you should try to narrow it down first by installing
intermediate Wine releases.

In any case, please open a new bug for this.
