I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 which is updated day by day (proposed actualisations
enabled) and I'm experiencing this bug. In my case it affects two games:

StarCraft II Demo
Portal 2

Running   echo 0|sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope   before starting
those resloves this issue.
