SUCCESS! I finally got DVD Shrink not only to load, but successfully shrink
some discs. Thanks Mr. Jesus once again - I actually wasn't expecting a reply
so quickly, so had trawled through those pages and figured out for myself that
Gstreamer seemed to be the culprit (at least for a bunch of games out there).

I figured simply disabling Gstreamer should be enough, as recompiling Wine
without it was a hassle I'd rather avoid (and should have the same effect
anyway), but as mentioned it didn't seem to work. While "Native (Windows)"
would get the program to load, even if it couldn't be used, disabling Gstreamer
resulted in the app not loading at all. However, this was a global setting,
which I wanted to avoid in case any Windows programs that worked fine needed
it, so I changed that back to "Native then Builtin", and for DVDShrink.exe only
I disabled it.

After that, it worked. So now I'm a happy guy again and don't need to boot into
Windows (or run it virtually inside Ubuntu) just to back up my DVDs. Thanks
once again.
