Nothing special needed.  It has invariably crashed on start-up for me on Ubuntu
when I used that or Debian which I've used over the last few years.  This on
either Intel or Via based systems unless I changed the return value from 32 to
24.

The last time I tried was a year or so ago when I set up the current laptop
(Debian 6).  I'll try again over the next few days, possibly tomorrow or over
the weekend.
