>From my experience, most installers will display an error message when that
happens but the install will continue anyways. Very few installers actually
exited upon an error of not finding a DirectX or VC redist setup. This is
relevant in the case of testing if the built-in extensions of wine can run the
game, but for the plain user experience, this is irrelevant to them.

I now have the GOTY version of Borderlands, I will test it again soon.
