Confirmed, it seems like a regression, as when I opened this bug report with
wine 1.5.9 an 'x' will not cause the crash, but only CJK chars.

And the WINEDEBUG env won't change the stack traceback I get. I just tried gdb
but got all ?? so there must be still something wrong in my side.
