I had a look in /usr/share/X11/locale/locale.alias ...
the ones which fail in wine don't have an entry there.

It may also be a problem with the desktop manager. I'm running gnome 3.

Ken: Do they have an entry in your /usr/share/X11/locale/locale.alias ? Btw,
what's your distribution?
