that was introduced 2007 in 0.9.49 by the commit mentioned in comment #7:
>dsound: Add support for WAVEFORMATEXTENSIBLE format.
was removed in wine-1.5.14. See bug #30685. Please retest.

Regarding comment #23, if the app crashes nowadays at launch, a different bug
report need be filed, with regression testing and a reference that it blocks
this one.  The original issue is clearly with dsound, according to comment #12.
