Sorry I forgot to mention I tried the winetricks stuff.

IE 6 and 7 do nothing in reagrd to this bug. (In fact that makes the activation
window not show up at all.)

IE 8 makes the application crash.

wininet, jscript, and winhtml do nothing. (Neither helps nor makes it worse.)
