I have the same issue. Even with git version wine-1.7.8-42-gf50ead6 

Movie part starts fine, when game starts there is a white circle that takes up
1/8th of the screen top right corner. I can see a room but no characters, can
somewhat move around but it is choppy and client freezes eventually.

I have 
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD7870
OS: Gentoo
Wine version: wine-1.7.8-42-gf50ead6

user.reg contains:

[Software\\Wine\\Direct3D]
"AlwaysOffScreen"="enabled"
"StrictDrawOrdering"="enabled"
