Yup.  The crossover equivalent of winetricks vcrun2005 (simply installing the
MS VC++ 2005 runtime via crossover's ui) made the problem go away.

I haven't tried in a non-crossover wine instance, but I can't imagine why it
would be any different.

I assume this means something changed with the builtin 2005 vc runtime that
broke compatibility with this but simply replacing it with a "real" one allowed
this to work.  Is that right?
