I have been looking for alternatives to SAI, as there hasn't been a reliable
fix yet, and I found another very similar Japanese painting program 4paint.

It must also be run in Wine, but the pressure sensitivity does work with my
Wacom Bamboo Pen. Unfortunately the program is entirely in Japanese, and most
of the Japanese is garbled within the program.

I am not a developer, but I wonder if it's possible to find a solution to the
pressure bug by looking into this program. 4paint appears to be very similar to
PaintTool SAI. (You should note that 4paint has pen settings that simulate
pressure, even with a mouse, which can be misleading. However I can confirm
that the pen pressure worked to control the opacity. I have yet to test the
other settings, as I can't read it.)
