This installed fine with wine-1.5.22-254-gc14bdaf (and presumably will with
wine-1.6-rc4); to run it, I had to do
  winetricks dotnet40
So, wine's gdiplus seems to have improved, and native gdiplus is no longer
needed to start this app.
