Running under openbox did indeed remove this issue but it ran very slowly. 
Further digging provided some parameters for Majesty, one of which fixed this
issue (I'll document this in appdb).  From it's name, nothreadedcursor, I'd
assume that there may be some threading related complexity.

So as far as I'm concerned this is closed.
