On a reasonable modern computer can be difficult to notice the slowdown,
especially for causal gamers like me. In a competetive multiplayer setting with
high level players it's much more likely to be an issue. (Though I think the
severity of this bug might vary depend on the gfx drivers)
Other similar reports: bug 14373 (closed despite reports saying it's not fixed)
