This sounds like a Wine bug to me - why Wine even tries to load builtin Tahoma
font which is known to look worse than a Core TTF version of this font (which
is found to be present and functional on my system)?

Actually I remember erasing ttf fonts from $prefix/share/wine/fonts a year ago,
but since then I've forgotten about this trick. Thank you for reminding me.
