I am having the same problem on a computer with wine 1.6-i386, Kindle 1.10.6
and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS upgraded from a disk image of 11.10.  On start-up after a
reinstall, the program said it could not find the directory.

A computer running kindle 1.10.1, the same wine version and 12.04 loaded from a
disk image works fine.
