Works for me with Wine 1.7.22. I initially had the same problems, but I now
created a new 32bit wineprefix just for Cossacks I and American Conquest -
Fight Back and Divided Nations.
I used these tricks to get it working:

I also didn't install the games directly into the wineprefix, I just copied the
installed gamefiles from another wineprefix.
