Same issue here in both dev and stable wine from the Ubuntu wine PPA.

Tested versions 1.6.1 and 1.7.12. I don't see it happen on the 32 bit client at
all.  

System:

Ubuntu 13.10, AMD Phenom II x4, 8 Gig ram.
