Jerome... Can you clarify what you mean by valid behaviour. The 'ls.' vs 'ls',
or the fact we cant run linux programs after my change?

My gut feeling is we should put in the patch I attached, which lets fully
qualified unix paths work, but a random program you wish to run needs to be a
windows suffix unless specified otherwise. Removing the auto suffixing
(PATHEXT) would break windows compatibility.
