I can confirm the same problem still exists (it's apparent on Geralt's face,
right in the beginning of tutorial).

System: Debian x86_64 (kernel 3.12.6).
Wine: 1.7.11
Hardware: Nvidia GeForce GTX 680
Driver: Nvidia 331.38.
Native override: d3dx9_43 (to avoid black screen, see bug #27344).

The only notable messages I could spot in the log:

fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8.
fixme:d3d9:Direct3DShaderValidatorCreate9 stub
fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8.
fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8.

fixme:d3d:state_lastpixel Last Pixel Drawing Disabled, not handled yet
