My automated build for last night for Ubuntu 12.04 and 14.04 has this change
included (plus a few other possible race conditions):
https://launchpad.net/~pipelight/+archive/ubuntu/daily/+packages

If you'd like to test and see if the fix for Bug 31566 also fixes this problem
then you can install the package with:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pipelight/daily
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine-compholio

This will install the patched Wine in a separate location from your main system
Wine, so to run with the patched version you'll want to launch Steam like so:
/opt/wine-compholio/bin/wine "C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\Steam.exe"

Note: If you're using pipelight (and the "stable" repo at ppa:pipelight/stable)
then you'll need to explicitly install the nightly build or wait until
tomorrow, as I forgot to up the primary version number (whoops!).
