I'm not really saying anything on the topic since it's not quite my area of
expertise, I'm just trying to clarify the bug report.
If you're just asking for my opinion, the current behaviour seems reasonable to
me, but I don't have the kind of setup the bug report is about, so that's
probably not worth much.
