Why don't you just revert the patches which caused the flickering and drawing
issues? Even the latest patchset by Ken Thomases didn't solve all issues for
me, and as he stopped working on it, it might be easier to restore the old (not
completely correct but at least functional) state.

The patchset to revert these changes is also part of Wine Staging:
