I tried to reproduce this in 1.7.27, and can't; I added a simple pivot table to
a spreadsheet, saved it, and had no problem reopening it. 

Please retest in 1.7.27 or later. If you still have the problem, please attach
a sample, non-confidential xlsx file that demonstrates it.
