It's partially due to copyrights. It can be permissible to copy if it is for
interoperability, but not 'just because'. Published/popular applications have a
stronger claim than a script for personal use that can be easily edited (unlike
a compiled binary application).

I know that doesn't help in your case, sorry about that, but wanted to give
some explanation.
