As it occurred between the last stable release and now, this would seem to be
an archetypical regression.

I can't run a bisect, at least for the next few weeks, but you're welcome to.
The program is free; just run the exe, pick any resolution and choose Launch on
the popup, choose New Game, enter a name, choose Start, wait for the game to
load to 100%/try to render, and see the crash.
