It doesn't crash for me with an nvidia card (or with HAL), but I do see a crash
on exit (wine-1.8-rc4)

with 1.7.8 (closest I have compiled to 1.6.2) it hangs when it should enter the
game.

This looks hardware/driver dependent. It's not likely the regression will be
fixed without you bisecting it.
