1. The Steam overlay was already disabled in the Steam options. I also wondered
why the overlay dll was still loaded. After disabling the dll in winecfg the
game still crashes.

2. This fixes/workarounds the crash. I see that this is a bug in the game so it
should also crash on Windows nowadays I think:
ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/195.22/README/knownissues.html#extension_string_size

Will create an AppDB entry with this information. So this can be marked as a
dupe.
